FAQ 5: Will SP-CRD plug up if my system is dirty?

Any type of steam trap can plug or hang up. SP-CRD minimizes the plugging problem in two ways:

  1. The units to be installed in conjunction with a special 40 x 40 mesh stainless steel are type 316, wire strainer insert. This insert is designed to trap any particles or contaminants before they reach the drain nozzle. This strainer should be cleaned as often as you would clean the strainers in front of your existing steam traps.
  2. The drain nozzle in all SP-CRD units is manufactured with a staged discharge. This design which is totally different from the "simple" orifices found in many steam traps and orifice plates facilitates the continual discharge of contaminants generally found in condensate.

This continual discharge allows C02, air, and non-condensable gases to be passed continually (unlike "sub cooling" or "intermittent discharging" traps). The SP-CRD is designed to have ALL its internal components repairable and replaceable within 5-minutes. In the majority of cases these can be carried out without impeding effects on production.
