FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A growing number of clients worldwide have already placed their trust with SteamPro. Multi-national and fortune 500 clients who have repeatedly experienced competitive advantages, benefits and unprecedented results from SteamPro solutions. Useful applications for, and serving, any industry that uses steam:
1. How does it work?
SteamPro Condensate Removal Device (SP-CRD) operates on the physics law known as two-phase flow. This means that steam and condensate are both competing for passage through the same nozzle. The reason SP-CRD works effectively is because much more condensate can pass through this nozzle than steam. [ Read More ]
2. Where can SP-CRD be used?
SP-CRD can be used on a variety of applications in many different types of facilities:
- Saturated steam distribution lines
- Steam heated dry cans/ cylinders
- Superheated steam distribution lines, up to 2,000 psig and 950 °F
- Humidifiers [ Read More ]
3. Do SteamPro Traps used in SteamPro Condensate Recovery System, ever get blockage?
Yes. Small orifices may be blocked. However, blockages are easily found and the SteamPro may be replaced online, without disturbing the existing pipes in 5-minutes. Applications, such as, copper heat tracing may not be advisable, due to frequent blockage. [ Read More ]
4. How can SP-CRD operate with applications such as heat exchangers and heating coils when condensate loads fluctuate?
Yes. Small orifices may be blocked. However, blockages are easily found and the SteamPro may be replaced online, without disturbing the existing pipes in 5-minutes. Applications, such as, copper heat tracing may not be advisable, due to frequent blockage. [ Read More ]
5. Will SP-CRD plug up if my system is dirty?
Any type of steam trap can plug or hang up. SP-CRD minimizes the plugging problem in two ways: [ Read More ]
6. How can SP-CRD be used on a distribution line when ambient conditions change?
SP-CRD units are in service on outside distribution lines all over the world. Here is an example of how SP-CRD would be applied on a distribution line that experiences dramatic changes in ambient conditions. [ Read More ]
7. Will SP-CRD work on a vacuum return system?
SP-CRD is becoming a very popular replacement for steam traps on vacuum return for two reasons: [ Read More ]
8. Can SP-CRD be applied in a return system that is experiencing backpressure problems?
Yes. Consider the 150 psig distribution line outlined in FAQ #6, when nozzle #03 is used... [ Read More ]
9. How does SP-CRD vent air, CO2 and other non-condensable gases?
The continuous venting of air, CO 2 and other contaminants is an important requirement of any steam trap. The key to performing this vital function is... [ Read More ]
10. Won't a trap replacement program require a large number of different SP-CRD models?
Even though SP-CRD must be sized for each specific application, our applications experience has proven that many large facilities require a surprisingly limited number of SP-CRD models. A major mid-western refinery standardized on two different SP-CRD models to complete a 300 trap conversion of its existing steam traps.
11. Won't it be difficult to select the correct SP-CRD model size?
Selecting the appropriate SP-CRD models does require a certain basic knowledge of the lines and equipment to be trapped. Early in SP-CRD's development, SteamPro realized that the majority of plant and facilities engineers do not have the time to spend on sizing the steam traps. [ Read More ]
12. If it's as great as you say, why is it not popular around the world?
It's an engineered product that requires trained personnel to calculate and precisely apply the CRD technology. It also required much hard work on the part of the installers. Fortunately it is a one time effort. More importantly, the user doesna£į?t need to do much apart from enjoy the resulting savings and reduced maintenance.
13. What percentage of steam-saving can you deliver?
The savings depend on the amount of live steam losses through the existing steam traps. Generally, savings of 5-55% can be expected with the installation of Steam Condensate Recovery Unit.
14. How can you ensure that SIZING will be correct for my plant/factory?
We train our engineers. They will be right most of time. However, they are not infallible. Therefore, we design the product to be real time and online inspectable. If the sizing is incorrect, the situation may be remedied in 5 minutes. We always perform post-installation verification and report the results to you.
15. How much downtime is incurred when checking on SP-CRD?
5 minutes. The SP-CRD is truly a real time online inspectable device. The SP-CRD may be opened for the inspection of condensate flow in just 5 minutes.
16. Is back-pressure experienced when using SteamPro System?
Back-pressure is often caused by steam traps losing too much live steam. Conversion to SP-CRD will reduce the back-pressure.
17. Why does SteamPro Products have a life expectancy as long as 20 years or more, compared to other steam traps in the market?
At moderate steam pressure, below 40 bars, the steam has very little effects on the SP-CRD orifices. The SP-CRD units are constructed entirely of stainless steel and have no moving parts. They operate almost without changing over a span of many years.
